I am an associate professor in the Department of Communication at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va. I teach courses in media studies, critical theory, and gender. My research begins with feminism and critical theory to interrogate the production and consumption of popular culture. I am interested in how society both reproduces and challenges gendered and raced ideologies on television and social media. I am currently the chair and program planner for the Popular Culture Interest Group of the Central States Communication Association and the third vice-chair of the Feminist and Women Studies Division of the National Communication Association. You can find me on Twitter. Click here to view the first phase of my co-authored research project on Miss Representation.
